Tips on how to write an effective article

April 7 at 9:24 pm in Tips & Tutorials, Worker Tips, Writing & Transcription by Honey Amabelle D. Young (Admin) 22 Comments »

One of the more common jobs being posted online nowadays are for article writing.  If you know how to write in English (remember your high school and college essays?), you may have the potential to write an effective article.  An article is considered effective if people read them and like doing so.  The following are some tips on how you could write an effective article:

  • Do your research – Before you even attempt to write an article about a topic, you have to do some research.  No matter how familiar you seem to be about something, it still pays to refresh yourself by reading about it.  You don’t want to run the risk of getting your facts wrong.  This is especially true if you are dealing with facts and figures.  You have to include figures from the latest studies and for the correct demographics.  Even if you are writing an opinionated article, it would still help to do your research.
  • Start with a good title – A good article

Get hired quicker by creating an attractive profile -Part 2

April 1 at 10:33 am in Worker Tips by Honey Amabelle D. Young (Admin) 1 Comment »

Now on to the second part of this series.  I will discuss the elements on the last two tabs that you will find when you edit your profile – Worker Experience and Contact Info.

Worker Experience

  • Self-summary – This is a short description of what you can do and what you can offer the clients.  It is an exposition of your title.  If your title contain the words ‘data entry’, expound how you are a great data entry person on your self summary.  Do not talk about being a writer if your title doesn’t say ‘writer’.  You have to be consistent or you risk coming off as confused.
  • Ideal Job – Write the job you most want to be hired for.  If you can’t decide, you can write more than one.  Just make sure they actually match the job categories you chose under ‘worker details’.  I warn you though, don’t list too many ideal jobs.  The element is called IDEAL job, not ANY job.
  • Skills – List the skills

March 31 at 2:45 am in Virtual Assistant, Worker Tips by Honey Amabelle D. Young (Admin) 12 Comments »

There are a lot of jobs posted that are hiring for “virtual assistants”.  But, what are they really and what do they actually do?  Can you consider yourself a virtual assistant?  What does is take for you to apply to be one?

According to wikipedia: A Virtual Assistant (typically abbreviated to VA, also called a virtual office assistant) is an entrepreneur who provides professional administrative, technical, or creative (social) assistance to clients from a home office.  A virtual assistant job involves data entry, email handling, answering calls, customer service, online marketing, research, even SEO and link building.  In other words, a virtual assistant is like a remote secretary.  This job involves mostly secretarial and clerical types of work.

If you want to be a VA you have to prepare yourself to have a lot of competition.  Essentially, anyone with basic computer and internet skills can apply to be a virtual assistant.  Don’t let this fact daunt you, though.  As with any competition, the one who has an edge will always [...] Continue reading

Learn how to send and receive money through Xoom and Paypal

March 22 at 11:25 am in Employer Tips, Tips & Tutorials, Worker Tips by Honey Amabelle D. Young (Admin) 49 Comments »

Two of our more recommended methods to send and receive payments are Xoom and PayPal.  We have used both services and have found that both are convenient and easy to use.  While some may prefer one over the other, each has their own merits.  I will discuss each payment method in detail so that you may be able to choose which payment method is best for you to use. (Jump to PayPal section)

Sending money:

Sending money through Xoom is very easy.  You just create a Xoom account, choose a method of funding your money transfer, enter recipient details and payout method, and you’re good to go.  You only need to create an account with Xoom once.  All the details you enter are saved in your account and should you choose to re-use the same details (e.g. funding method, recipient, payout method), you don’t need to re-enter them again.  Creating a Xoom account is free.

There are a lot of ways that you can fund your [...] Continue reading

Best Practices to follow when working as an online freelancer

March 14 at 9:12 pm in Worker Tips by Honey Amabelle D. Young (Admin) No Comments »

When you’re in the business of online freelancing, you have to follow certain best practices in order for you to make a good impression on your clients and to last long in this trade.  What I’m going to suggest are very common, almost basic, practices that an online freelancer should do.  But sadly, there are still a lot who are not following it.

  • Always meet deadlines – It is very easy to say this, but sometimes it’s very hard to do.  This is especially true if you took on more projects than you can handle.  Only take on projects when you are absolutely certain that you can meet the set deadline.  If you have even the tiniest doubt that you can submit it on time, then it would be a lot better for you if you just said “no”.
  • Don’t bite off more than you can chew – When you start to get project offers left and right, you might be very tempted to take them all in.  Why

Should you go part-time or full-time?

March 13 at 12:03 pm in Worker Tips by Honey Amabelle D. Young (Admin) No Comments »

In an online freelancer’s world, one has a choice of either going for a full time job or going part-time.  In this post,  I will talk about the pros and cons of each type of job.

A. Part-time Job – This type of job is usually project-based and will last for the duration of a project.  These jobs are considered as “stints” and normally lasts a few days, weeks, or months, depending on the scope of work assigned to you.  As with full-time jobs, part-time jobs have their pros and cons.

Pros :

  • This type of job usually offers a higher rate per hour.
  • You will be able to take in more than one project for different clients at a time.
  • You will be able to work at any time of your convenience as you own your time.  Time management is key.
  • You will be exposed to a lot of clients/buyers, most of whom will gladly recommend you to their friends if you do a good job.  They will

The realities of an online freelancer

January 13 at 9:59 pm in Worker Tips by Honey Amabelle D. Young (Admin) 3 Comments »

Being an online freelancer for over a year now, there are  lot of lessons I have learned about this trade.  It is not always roses and good opportunities do abound.

Here are the realities that I have found about working online:

  • It gives you the opportunity to earn a lot - Being an online freelancer is lucrative.  It has the possibility to make you earn more than a regular day job.  However, since we are paid in USD, our income is greatly dependent on the current exchange rates.
  • It gives you the opportunity to learn a lot – There are a lot of stuff that I know how to do today than when I first started with online freelancing.  I didn’t know anything about SEO or link building or niche marketing before I got into online work.  I even had to google what SEO meant.  With the help of a few of my wonderful clients, I have learned these skills which has helped me lot in my work.
  • It

Why I love working from home

January 12 at 9:51 pm in Worker Tips by Honey Amabelle D. Young (Admin) No Comments »

I absolutely love working from home.  There are a lot of advantages of doing so over a regular day job.  Here are the reasons why I am currently working from home and why I plan to continue to do so until I am no longer able to.

  1. I manage my own time – This is not to say that you can work whenever, wherever.  In order for you to have a successful career from home, you still have to set specific working hours and stick with it.  You can decide which hours are most convenient for you and you can set that aside as your work period.
  2. I can manage my household more effectively – You will never be able to do this if you work at an office.  The best you can do is call home every few hours to check.  If you work from home, you keep an eye on everything that’s going on around you.
  3. I get to spend more time with my children – I

Is working an Online Job the right thing for you?

January 11 at 9:07 pm in Worker Tips by Honey Amabelle D. Young (Admin) No Comments »

You may have toyed with the idea of doing online jobs.  You may even have considered doing it full time and quitting your regular day job.  But the question that is foremost on the minds of people considering doing online jobs is this:  Is working online the right thing for me?

If you have considered working online and you are still employed at a day job, here’s a bit of advice: start slow.  You can start doing online jobs as a side line, when you get off work, or when you have free time.  This is a good time for you to start building your reputation.  Start with one or two clients and get the feel of how it is to work online.

I warn you, though:  once you start earning serious money online and you get a sense of fulfillment of what you do, you will be considering doing it full time.  If and when you do, you may want to consider a few things first.  After all, deciding [...] Continue reading
